Video Rating: four / five

  1. MaryEmerson80 says:

I love being natural and green – never thought you could make your own dish soup its so cool that women are actually making these things and sharing them thanks!

  2. Fingerboardin101 says:

    Cool! You should sell it…..

  3. chibomato78 says:

can you use green apple scent?

  4. NotaCoolMom says:

@chibomato78 No -that’s more of a scent than a cleaning agent. You need antibacterial and antifungal properties, like lavender, pine, tea tree and lemon

  5. Melimelicious says:

Your son is so cute!! He looks so much like my son when he was that age!! Anyway, I am going to try it out. I hate paying so much for dish liquid!!

  6. GlamMarkRep says:

Very helpful! Where can I purchase the castille oil?If its at the grocery store what section? I have never seen it? Thanks so much for your help!

  7. NotaCoolMom says:

@GlamMarkRep I get it at whole foods – it’s a little pricey so I ask them to get me the a gallon at a time Although some of the Whole Foods’ already carry the larger size.

  8. Is there a difference between Castile soap and oil? Or are they one and the same? I have some Castile soap and would like to try and make my own dishsoap as well, but I’m not sure what the oil is? Can anyone answer this question for me?

  9. casbah1982 says:

@NotaCoolMom What is Castile oil? You said it is vegetable oil; can you use regular vegetable oil that you buy in the baking section of the grocery store in place of it? What about olive oil? Thanks

  10. Wow i learn something everyday.

  11. @Dar0922 Ya,she said it was vegetable oil.So get some veg oil.I can get veg oil at walmart for $2,25.

  12. NamasteMamaLLC says:

FYI Dr Bronners is not Castile Oil, its Castile SOAP. Castile soap is made from olive oil, but it is not oil, its soap.

  13. @NamasteMamaLLC That’s one of the issues confusing this video; you’d think she’d know & notice the difference! The other thing is that mixing alkaline soap with acid vinegar is just plain wrong. They counteract each other and form insoluble fatty acid. Maybe that’s what she meant about this producing a product that’s less soapy — but why would anyone want dish soap to be any less than completely soapy? If it makes your dish water too soapy, just use less soap, duh!

  14. NotaCoolMom says:

@NamasteMamaLLC Lots of people call it oil and lots of people call it soap. No need to split hairs.
Here are the ingredients : Water, Organic Coconut Oil*, Potassium Hydroxide**, Organic Olive Oil*, Organic Hemp Oil, Organic Jojoba Oil, Citric Acid, Tocopherol

  15. NotaCoolMom says:

@casbah1982 Castile Soap is made from oil, so I call it both, sorry for the confusion. You can’t use veg oil in place of castile. I get mine at whole foods

  16. NotaCoolMom says:

@Dar0922 Castile Soap is made primarily from oil so I call it both, but you need to buy castile soap for the recipe

  17. NotaCoolMom says:

My new website is up – Elizabeth’s Kind Cafe.com check it out when you have a minute!

  18. NamasteMamaLLC says:

@NotaCoolMom Again you ar eincorrect the possaum hydroxide or lye is used the the chemical reaction process in soap making which is called saponification. While oil is used to make all soaps it can not be done with out potassium hydroxide/ sodium hydroxide. WIth out this you can not have soap you would just have oil. So this is not splitting hairs, oil is oil by its self and mixing oil with lye = soap. Its simple chemestry.

  19. NamasteMamaLLC says:

    Actually

  20. NamasteMamaLLC says:

Not one calls Dr. Bronners oil, maybe oil soap because its made from oil, but not oil becasue its not oil, its soap. they are two different things.

  21. 68mochagirl says:

I want to start making my own dish soap, but the problem I have is this: We like to keep ours in a dispenser. All instructions I’ve seen online say to “shake it up before using”. That’s a problem when you have your hands contaminated from just cutting up raw chicken, for example. With our dispenser, we use the back of our hands to push and the soap comes out without contaminating the container. Can anyone advise on this? Does homemade soap HAVE to shaken each time before use? Thanks.

  22. lmmbchampion says:

Thank you so much for this ‘recipe’. My husband got the Dr. Bronner’s for me tonight and I already made up a double batch and washed up a sink full of dishes! You were right, it has a nice consistency and I love how it is sudsy enough to do dishes but when I’m rinsing out the sink, the suds have pretty much disappeared. Of course, the real test was that it worked great at cleaning the dishes! Thanks, again :)

  23. hi NotaCoolMom, can you please clarify if what we need is castile soap or castile oil. I cannot find castile oil anywhere. Thanks

  24. Shelly2819 says:

Castile soap is sold in liquid form and not it is not the same as the bar… and you can get it in different fragrances with essential oils in them
